It is a local fitness coordination app. You find a place to train nearby, see which activities it offers, join or create a workout session at a specific date and time, request to join, and — once the organiser accepts — coordinate the workout privately.
It is a fitness utility, not a dating or social discovery app. There is no swiping, no matching, no likes and no random chat.
Open the Explore tab. The map shows fitness venues near you — each pin is a place, not a person. Tap a pin to see a quick preview with rating, distance, opening status, main activities and how many sessions are planned there, then tap View Place for the full venue page.
Use the activity chips above the map to show only venues offering a specific activity, or open the Places tab for a searchable, filterable list.
Tap the area name at the top left of Explore to change your city and neighbourhood. If you declined location access, this is how you tell the app where you are — everything works exactly the same afterwards.
If a filter is active, venues outside it are hidden. Open Filters and tap Reset to clear everything.
In the Places tab, Filters covers distance, facility type, activity, open now, beginner friendly, indoor or outdoor, free to use, accessible entrance, women-only sessions, upcoming partner sessions, and specific facilities such as squat racks, a boxing ring, a sled track, showers, lockers or parking.
You can also sort the list by distance, rating or number of upcoming sessions.
A session is a planned workout attached to a real venue, a specific activity, a date and a time. It has an experience level, an intensity, an expected duration, a maximum number of participants, a training goal, and usually a short plan and an equipment list.
You never browse people on their own — you browse workouts, and the participants come with them.
Open the session and tap Send Join Request. You write a short introduction (or pick one of the suggested messages), optionally add your relevant experience and what you want to train, and confirm you can attend at that date and time.
The organiser then accepts or declines. If they accept, the session appears under Sessions > Joined and a private conversation opens so you can coordinate.
Organisers review requests manually, so give it some time. While a request is pending, the session page shows "Request sent — waiting for the organiser" and you can withdraw it at any time. A declined request is not a judgement about you; sessions have limited spots and organisers often plan around a specific level.
Tap + in the Sessions tab, or Plan a Workout Here on any venue page. Choose the venue and activity, give the session a title and a purpose, set the date, time and duration, then pick the experience level, intensity, training goal and maximum number of participants. Add the planned workout and any equipment people should bring.
Keep Participants must request approval switched on so you review every request before anyone can message you.
Go to Sessions > Created. Pending requests appear at the top with the athlete's introduction, their experience note, their participation record and whether they confirmed they can attend. From there you can accept, decline, view their profile or report them.
Accepting adds them to the session and opens a conversation. Declining does not notify them with a reason and does not create any contact.
On the For You tab, each session shows how well it lines up with your profile — the activity, your experience level, the intensity you prefer, the distance to the venue and whether it falls in a time of day you marked as available. It is about training fit only. It says nothing about the people involved.
Open the session and tap Leave this session. Please do it as early as you can — the organiser and the other participants planned around your confirmation. Repeated last-minute cancellations affect your participation record.
This is deliberate. Messaging opens only when a join request has been accepted, or when you and the other athlete are both confirmed participants in the same session. There is no way to start a conversation from a profile or from the Messages tab, and nobody can message you out of the blue.
It keeps every conversation attached to a real workout, which is why each thread shows its shared context at the top — for example "Connected through Saturday HYROX Practice at Meridian HYROX Lab."
Above the message box you will find one-tap coordination messages: "Are we still on for today?", "I have arrived", "I will be 10 minutes late", "Which equipment should I bring?", "Let's meet near the entrance", "Can we lower the intensity?" and "See you at the session."
The video button is available only inside an existing conversation, so you can only call someone you are confirmed to be training with. There is no random calling.
Tap the video icon in the conversation header. If the other person does not pick up within a few seconds you will see No Answer and a note is added to the conversation. During a connected call you can mute the microphone, turn the camera off, switch cameras and toggle the speaker. Calls are never recorded.
Blocking someone hides your conversation with them immediately. If you left a conversation from the menu, it is removed from your list but you remain in the session. Check Profile > Trust and Safety > Blocked Users — unblocking is available there.
Yes, completely. Tap the area name at the top of Explore and choose your city and neighbourhood manually. Location is only used to show nearby venues and sort them by distance; it is never shared with other users and is never tracked in the background.
To enable it later, go to Settings > Who – Gym Partner > Location on your device and choose "While Using the App".
Both need permission. Open Settings > Who – Gym Partner on your device and enable Camera and Microphone. Camera is also used if you want to take a profile photo; the microphone is only ever used during a call, and nothing is recorded.
Check Settings > Who – Gym Partner > Notifications and make sure Allow Notifications is on. Notifications cover your own coordination activity — a session starting soon, a session tomorrow, a join request accepted, a session updated or cancelled. You can also see these in the bell icon on the Explore tab.
That is Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. Allowing it lets us understand which campaign an install came from. Declining changes nothing about how the app works — every feature stays available. You can change your answer any time in Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking.
Open any conversation and use the ⋯ menu, or open a profile and use the Report and Block buttons. Reporting asks for a reason and optional details, and you can block at the same time.
Blocking hides the conversation, prevents further contact and cancels pending session requests in both directions. Reports are confidential and we aim to review them within 48 hours. You can follow them in Profile > Trust and Safety > Report History.
Report them. Who – Gym Partner is a fitness coordination app, and using it to seek romantic or sexual contact breaches the Community Guidelines. Conversations exist to agree where to meet, what to bring and when to start — nothing else.
After a completed session the app asks four short questions: did the session take place, was the information accurate, would you train with this participant again, and was there a safety or conduct issue. Answers are private, shape the sessions we recommend to you, and help us spot problems. There is no public score and no public yes/no voting on people.
Open Profile > Edit. You can change your first name, area, fitness introduction, profile photo, training interests, your experience level for each activity, preferred duration and intensity, group size, indoor or outdoor, training days and times, travel distance, and your current goals.
Please keep your experience levels accurate — other athletes use them to plan a session that is safe for everyone.
Tap the bookmark on any venue to save it; saved venues appear under Favourite Places in your profile. Profile > Training Calendar shows joined, created and past sessions grouped by day, with a check-in prompt on anything completed.
They are neutral signals about involvement, not ratings of a person: New Participant, Active Participant, Consistent Participant and Session Organiser, alongside a plain description such as "Attends consistently". There are no negative public scores, and no attractiveness or popularity metrics anywhere in the app.
Short informational pages about an activity — what it is, typical equipment, what to expect as a beginner, common session formats and safety reminders. Open one from any activity row on a venue page. They are general information about the sport, not training programmes and not medical advice.
Go to Profile > Trust and Safety > Delete Account. This removes your profile, interests and experience levels, saved places, training calendar, sessions you created and joined, all conversations and messages, and your blocked users and report history from the device. It cannot be undone.
Uninstalling the app has the same effect. Because your profile and conversations are stored on your device rather than on a server, there is no separate copy for us to delete.
The app has no in-app purchases and does not process payments. Venue entry fees, memberships, court bookings and equipment are arranged directly between you and the venue.
